"Floating Stones" Kinetic installation for atriums and public spaces

FLOATING STONES

CONCEPT

Floating Stones is a monumental kinetic installation that transforms an interior space into a breathtaking nature-inspired artwork.

The composition is formed by suspended stone islands that appear to defy gravity. Massive rock fragments hover overhead, slowly changing their position, rising and descending to create the impression of a living landscape floating above visitors.

The installation brings together architecture, nature, kinetic movement, lighting, and greenery. It creates the illusion of the impossible—heavy stones appear to float effortlessly through space. The result is an object that immediately captures attention, inspires curiosity, and encourages people to stop, explore the details, and capture the experience through photographs and video.

NATURE LIFTED INTO THE AIR

The central idea behind the installation is to present nature as a force that extends beyond its familiar form.

Stone is traditionally associated with weight, permanence, and the earth itself. In Floating Stones, this perception is reimagined as massive rock formations detach from the ground and become part of an elegant suspended landscape.

Each floating element can incorporate plants, moss, ornamental grasses, flowers, and subtle architectural lighting. Together, these details transform every suspended unit into a miniature fragment of nature relocated into an architectural environment.

The installation creates the feeling that ancient pieces of the landscape have risen into the air and begun an entirely new existence.

KINETIC MOVEMENT

Movement is the defining feature of the project.

Each suspended unit can smoothly change its height, generating slow waves, rhythmic sequences, and complex spatial transformations. The maximum vertical travel of each unit can reach 10 meters, making it possible to create dramatic vertical choreography within tall atriums and expansive public interiors.

The movement may remain calm and meditative—almost imperceptible, like the gentle breathing of the space—or become more expressive as the floating islands form waves, cascades, ascending compositions, and synchronized motion.

Because of this continuous movement, the installation never appears static. It constantly evolves, creating changing visual compositions and offering visitors a different experience every time they encounter it.

THE ATMOSPHERE OF A LIVING SPACE

Floating Stones performs especially well in large interior environments where generous ceiling height, open space, natural light, and pedestrian flow come together.

The installation can become the central feature of an atrium, shopping gallery, hotel, business center, airport, cultural institution, or other public environment.

During the day, the object is perceived as an architectural sculpture inspired by nature.

In the evening, or when illuminated with dedicated architectural lighting, it transforms into an atmospheric kinetic composition where stone, vegetation, and light combine to create the impression of a floating garden.

Rather than simply decorating a space, the installation changes its character, making the interior feel more dynamic, emotional, memorable, and premium.

AN INSTALLATION THAT ATTRACTS PEOPLE

Floating Stones naturally becomes a focal point for visitors.

People instinctively look upward, pause beneath the installation, photograph it, and observe its slow movement. The project performs particularly well in locations with high pedestrian traffic because it remains visible from a distance while creating a memorable visual identity.

For shopping centers, it becomes a signature artwork that elevates the status of the interior while encouraging visitors to create and share content.

For hotels, it becomes a premium feature within the lobby or atrium.

For business centers, it represents contemporary architecture and technological innovation.

For cultural venues, it creates a dialogue between art, nature, and engineering.

WHERE THE INSTALLATION CAN BE USED

Floating Stones is especially well suited for spaces with generous ceiling height and large open volumes.

The installation can be placed in:

  • • shopping centers;
  • • business center atriums;
  • hotels and resort complexes;
  • airports and transportation hubs;
  • museums and cultural institutions;
  • exhibition venues;
  • contemporary residential developments;
  • public galleries;
  • restaurants and premium lounge areas;
  • corporate headquarters.
  • The project can be developed either as a permanent architectural installation or as a temporary kinetic artwork created for exhibitions, forums, festivals, or branded events.

SAFETY AND CONTROL

The installation is engineered as a professional kinetic system designed for use in public environments.

All kinetic elements are controlled through dedicated software, allowing the movement of every suspended unit to be synchronized, height-limited, and adapted for safe day-to-day operation.

The system also incorporates video surveillance, which can be used for monitoring the installation, supervising its operation, and providing an additional level of safety within the installation area.

FLOATING STONES — ARCHITECTURAL NATURE IN MOTION

Floating Stones is an installation that brings together the beauty of nature, kinetic technology, and expressive architectural design.

The project creates an illusion of weightlessness, impresses through its scale, brings movement into architectural space, and establishes a powerful visual centerpiece. It has the ability to transform an ordinary atrium or public interior into a destination that people remember, photograph, and associate with the entire location.

More than a suspended decorative element, Floating Stones is a floating landscape that moves, breathes, and transforms architecture into a living experience.
